fresh naan! |
Colour me a little bit nervous, but I'm on my way north today. This morning I walked to the business area around the circle in Dhaka and it was a much different experience than over the weekend. In Muslim countries the holy day is Friday, so the weekend covers Friday and Saturday, and today is the beginning of the work week. I took some pictures, but less of traffic and more of just some of the people.
I went up to go to the pharmacy but it wasn't open yet, and then I forgot to go to the bank, so I'm walking back over there again. It's a good thing I like walking because I'm sure doing a lot of it here!! :)
I stopped at a street stall and got a couple pieces of fresh made naan bread for Tk 8 apiece, it was so good. They were rather disdainful of me that I only wanted 2 pieces, looked me up and down a couple of times and said "only 2? only 2!?", but that was all I wanted, lol.
Now I'm going to walk back up again and visit the bank, because the places I'm going up north don't have bank machines, so I'll have to take out all the money I'll need for most of the rest of the time I'm here. Then I'll try the pharmacy again before walking back. I'm dying already outside in the 30degree heat wrapped in a scarf but I sure get stared at a lot less with the scarf wrapped across my chest/neck - that's enough to get me to wear it!!
So I have to get going if I want to get to the Embassy this morning so I'll leave you with a few pictures from my walk... enjoy!

Now: Walk back up to bank (dumb dumb) and then back again. Pick up bags and get guard to help me get a CNG or Rikshaw to the Indian Embassy so I can apply for my visa. Hire another rickshaw or CNG to the giant bus station and head for Mymensingh/Birisiri up north... if there's internet there you'll hear from me soon, if there's not I'll be back in Dhaka in a week (though between Mymensingh and Srimongol I'll probably fine a computer SOMEwhere) - so don't worry!! :)
Thinking of you all back home and hoping you're safe and happy - here I go again, wish me luck!
Love the photos Sweetie. Everything seems so haphazard. Couldn't see any intersections or actual sidewalks for that matter. I am getting a good education from your writing. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to hearing from you again soon. xoxox Mom
