Haha, my first real meal in Bangladesh |
I had planned 4 days of this leg of my travel to the Chittagong Hill Tracts region of Bangladesh, a place that really shouldn't be missed when you're in the country, and now I have an email telling me I can't go. Something about kidnappings and murders, I don't know; but since neither of those things are on my travel itinerary I now have to rearrange my plans in Bangladesh. See mom, I listen and can follow directions sometimes!!!
So this morning Kassandra met some friends for breakfast at the American Club (a place for expats to hang out where you must have a membership to get in) and she invited me along and bought me food (so nice of her!), and it was such fun.
It's my first real meal in Bangladesh since I've thus far avoided the street stalls, and it was such a treat. I met a bunch of expat women who are teaching at the International school, and one who is working for UNESCO (the UN) for a few months, and (sorry Mom) I'm now having ideas about how to rearrange my educational plans so that *I* can live in whatever country I feel like it for a year at a time and be so well taken care of (international schools, wow! I'll check with Kassandra and ask her if she minds if I post pictures of her apartment, it's SO nice!).
This afternoon I'm thinking to take a rickshaw over to Old Dhaka and find a place to stay... I actually sent a couple of messages on couchsurfing too, so maybe I can stay in the area and just daytrip to the part of the city I want to visit before I move on to Khulna!
I have to rearrange my plans now (GAH!) so I'm not moving tonight, I'll move tomorrow. Today is the 2nd day of the weekend (the work week is Sunday through Thursday here, Friday and Saturday are the weekend) so I imagine traffic is going to be quite bad... fun! fun! I'm going to go out and see if I can find a shalwar kameez at the market up the road (the same place I already visited), yay! Back out into the heat I go :)
